It is almost a day before the special ‘early bird’ offer on the very first WishList Member Certification course expires and when the classes kick off on Decmber 2nd..

In preparation of this, I thought I would share some tips/thoughts on what I am doing to get ready for this training exercise . First of all though, here are some suggestions for two groups:

If you are new to Wishlist , WordPress and are using the course to build your site as you go along then I would suggest you setup the following in advance of Day One at school.

  • Install and Setup WordPress on your web host. Majority of hosts have excellent one click installers .
  • Install WishList Member
  • Don’t spend too much time thinking about the Theme Styling of your site this can be easily changed , avoid wasting any valuable time looking or searching for themes, looking at these is a great time wasting exercise :D

Or maybe you are in the following category:
You already have a WordPress Site and are looking at adding a membership option during the course. ?
It may seem like a great idea to work ‘hot’ on your production site. However, I would advise against this and setup the following, so you can work stress-free and safe in the knowledge that your main site (income stream is still good to go).

I should point out that outline above is what I am doing to prepare for this course and to stay focused, well try to at least :)

  • Setup another test domain … this can be a sub-domain too. So you can create a sandbox test ground.
  • Install WordPress and WishList member
  • Styling is entirely optional but if you want to copy across your production theme to see how it looks go right ahead but don’t get caught up in style/theme-gazing as above :D

In addition: for both of these group profiles

  • DO watch the training videos on the WishList Support Web site covering the core features of WishList.
  • Keep your passwords and user names handy (or if you use a Mac I would recommend 1Password to help manage this for you)

What are you doing to prepare for this , would love to hear your thoughts on this ?

All the best and see you online.
Kevin
